I was delighted to finally get around to visit the Auckland Art Gallery at the weekend and see Ocean III (2010), by Gursky.
I absolutely love his work and have been looking forward to seeing one of his pieces for some time. I first learnt of Gursky when I was in Art School and I based my thesis partly on his work – High Art in the Digital Age; Recent work by Bill Viola and Andreas Gursky and its cultural context (2004).
It’s a fantastic accomplishment for the gallery to acquire a work of this international standard and it is well and truly at home in the world-class venue that is Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.
